Beaumont, Texas – Brock Service Painting Company
was recently recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety
and Health Administration as a “STAR” site under OSHA’s Voluntary Protection
Program at the Arkansas Eastman facility in Batesville, Arkansas. Since
1982, out of 6.2 million potential sites, only 1041 sites have been
recognized, with only 20 contractors reaching this prodigious milestone.
Brock is one of two specialty contractors who have received the award and is
the first contractor recognized in the State of Arkansas.
The official presentation of the STAR Flag and
plaque was held at the Arkansas Eastman facility. Local and State
dignitaries were in attendance, as well as a radio simulcast, indicating the
remarkable accomplishment and tremendous importance of the Federal
recognition program.
Speaking on behalf of the Eastman Corporation,
Jeff Johnston, Corporate Safety and Health Manager, praised Brock for their
leadership in saying, “We continue to depend on people like Brock to make
our plants safer and more efficient. Brock has set the mark for Eastman.”
At the presentation of the STAR Site Plaque and
Flag, Paul Hansen, OSHA Area Director for the Department of Labor stated,
“The Department of Labor plans to use Brock as an example for others to show
them what they need to do about safety.”
Travis Brisco, President of Brock Service Painting,
stated, “This is indeed an honor for Brock and all of our employees who work
so diligently in making our work place safe. It takes a team effort to make
such an award a reality and Arkansas Eastman provides an excellent role
model”. Todd Brock, Chief Operating Officer for the Brock Group, added, “Our
processes and systems are in place and the employees of Brock at Arkansas
Eastman have proven that these processes are sustainable … you are leading
the pack.”
Speaking for the State of Arkansas, Deputy of State
for Senator Pryor, Michael Teague, stated, “The Brock employees have
connected the word “safety” with the “quality of life” … being safe is
day-to-day quality of life.” Deputy Teague went on to say, “We hope that we
can use what you have accomplished as a tool to market this great state
(Arkansas), this region, and the people of Arkansas. This accomplishment
will be added to the Congressional record by Senator Pryor on the United
State’s Senate Floor.”
Additional dignitaries attending the celebration
were U.S. Representative Deputy Joe Dillard, President of Lyon College,
Walter Roetger, and Kelly Fuss from WRD Entertainment FM103 KWOZ. Guest
speaker was Earl Heard, CEO and founder of BIC Magazine.
The OSHA Voluntary Protection Program recognizes
exemplary safety and health efforts demonstrated by company management and
its employees in a cooperative effort pending government review. Acceptance
into the program requires the company safety and health program to exceed
regulatory requirements. Sites participating in the VPP have overall lost
workday, and injury and illness rates 60 percent below their industry
average established by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

employees, has it corporate headquarters in Beaumont, Texas and specializes
in providing scaffolding, painting, insulation, lead and asbestos abatement,
