Approximately 1,500 ABC members and convention
attendees witnessed the impressive Excellence in Construction (EIC) award
ceremony. The EIC award recognizes companies that perform services on
a special, noteworthy project. Two projects were submitted for the
competition, with both projects receiving national honors.
Providing all of the scaffolding, painting, and
insulation services for the “2003 Valero Ardmore, Oklahoma Refinery
Plant-Wide Turnaround Project”, BMI won the Other Specialty
Construction category award. This project presented tremendous
challenges using BMI’s multi-crafting skills, while working in highly
congested units of the facility.
Additionally, BMI successfully provided the painting
services for the “ExxonMobil Baytown, Texas, Low Sulfur Mogas Project”,
winning the Industrial-Under $2 Million category award. BMI was
challenged with performing painting services on the largest hydrofiner in
the world, as it was being constructed. This work was done while working
around a peak load of 1,400 other craft personnel and staff. BMI was
selected out of a group of over 300 national level contractor submittals.
ABC presented 43 eagle awards at the national
convention in Honolulu. BMI received two of the five awards that were
presented to the Greater Houston Area Chapter members. Jeff Davis, BMI
President, addressed a large contingency of BMI participants attending the
convention, “I am extremely proud of those who contributed to this award
success and express my appreciation for doing an outstanding job regarding
both winning projects”. Todd Brock, COO of the Brock Group, also
congratulated the BMI TEAM at the convention during a celebration dinner.
In order to qualify for the national award
opportunity, BMI had to win at the local ABC chapter level. BMI accomplished
the local level wins in Houston at the ABC ICE Award Ceremony in
October of 2003. Many thanks go out to Valero Ardmore, ExxonMobil
Baytown, and Fluor Corporation, for their support and
encouragement on these projects. BMI is the only Specialty Industrial
Contractor (SIC 17) ever to win two Eagle awards in the same year.
BMI also received local and national level EIC ABC
award recognition in the year 2000 for the Historical Price Tower
Scaffold project in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and in 2002 for the No. 1
Coker Course Replacement Project at the BP Carson Refinery in
California. ABC Safety Excellence Awards were also presented
to BMI at the national conventions in 2000 & 2002.
Congratulations are extended to all Brock Maintenance,
Inc. employees and to the two projects for this remarkable achievement.
